• Representing ConocoPhillips in an ICSID arbitration under the Netherlands-Venezuela BIT and subsequent annulment proceedings, arising out of one of the largest expropriations in history. In March 2019, the Tribunal issued an US$8.7 billion award—the largest ever ICSID award—following a complex damages phase. 

  • Advising a Latin American conglomerate in an ICC claim against a state-owned entity for contractual breaches relating to a joint venture in the petrochemicals industry.

  • Representing South32 in its successful ICSID claim under the United Kingdom-Colombia BIT in respect of Colombia's measures attempting to extract additional royalties from the Cerro Matoso mining project.

  • Advising a US telecommunications company in an ICDR arbitration arising out of a joint venture in the Dominican Republic.

  • Representing ConocoPhillips in two joined ICC arbitrations against PDVSA governed by Venezuelan law, concerning PDVSA's breach of contract. The ICC tribunal awarded ConocoPhillips US$2 billion in damages.

  • Advising a leading US electronics company in its defense against a AAA claim relating to US intellectual property law.

  • Advising an international oil major in an ICC claim against Venezuela's state-owned oil company, PDVSA, relating to an offshore oil project.·      

  • Representing Latin American Regional Aviation Holding S. de R.L. (LARAH) in its successful claim against Uruguay under the Panama-Uruguay BIT, relating to its investment in Uruguay's former flag carrier airline, Pluna Líneas Aéreas (Pluna), and the forced sale thereof in 2012.

  • Representing an international oil major against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in a treaty-based claim in an ad hoc arbitration under the UNCITRAL arbitration rules. 

  • Advising a Spanish renewable energy company in relation to contractual and tort claims in US federal courts arising out of a solar energy project in Latin America.

  • Representing an international mining company in an ICC claim relating to a large mining project in Colombia.

  • Advising an energy and natural resources investor in an investment dispute under the UNCITRAL rules arising out of a government concession in Uruguay.
